Thanks to Bob at the Running Free store in Markham, I have discovered Carbo-Pro, which has become my new liquid fuel of choice, replacing my once-hailed GU gel. Carbo-Pro offered me sustained energy without the rollarcoaster highs and lows to which I am accustomed when ingesting gels. It's flavourless and I mix it with GU2O so that I get my carbohydrates, fluids, and electrolytes with every sip.
This blog chronicles my experience with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), my self-management via physical activity (primarily running, tennis, and CrossFit), and the synthesis of AS-focused research.

Feeling strong
I had a wonderful 16k run this morning along the Ajax waterfront into Pickering and back again. Just one month left before I run alongside my two running partners as support on their way to achieving their Personal Best (PB) at the Ottawa Half Marathon. This will be my first time participating in a race for the sole purpose of helping others achieve their goals. It has certainly removed a significant amount of self-imposed pressure to achieve my time goals and refocused my attention on motivational coaching.

Call me old fashioned (many do!), but i found the best solution during my long bike rides (>100km) was a simple carbo type of water mix (like your Carbo-Pro discovery) coupled with bananas, peaches/plums, and/or fig newton/date squares.
ReplyDeleteA combination of those items and I was powering through to the end!
Never was a fan of that gel stuff...
